“South American Trump” became president after coming from third place
Argentina’s presidential election (run-off) held in November had a turbulent outcome, with Congressman Javier Millei, a new candidate from the radical right and liberal supremacists, winning the election. He is known by his critics as “El Loco” (the madman) and has a unique philosophy.

During the election campaign, he called for abolishing the national currency, the peso, and switching to the US dollar. In December, he caused controversy by proposing radical reform proposals, including calling for the central bank to be shut down in order to curb the soaring prices of 210% year-on-year (25% month-on-month).
On the other hand, expectations for “reform” steadily increased. He was initially seen as the third choice, but after coming in first in the August primary, he suddenly became a strong candidate. Policies that are a source of controversy are not limited to the economic field. Milley’s recommendations include loosening gun laws, banning abortion, and allowing organ sales.
