South American tennis player was suspended from sports activity for match-fixing | Tennis

International Tennis Integrity Agency (

ITIA) confirmed this Tuesday in a statement that the Chilean Michel Vernier Quinteros was “suspended from the sport for seven years and five months, after admitting crimes of match-fixing.”

“The player is prohibited from competing or attending any tennis event organized by the governing bodies of the sport with a date prior to the start of his provisional suspension, on March 31, 2022, until August 30, 2029,” the text adds.

Vernier Quinteros, 29, was ranked 664th highest in the ATP.

The tennis player “admitted to having received money for fixing scores in matches in 2018, in addition to not reporting cases of corruption to the ITIA,” the agency explained in the statement.

According to the official website of the Association of Professional Tennis Players, this 29-year-old Chilean tennis player has played a total of 231 games, of which he won 94 and lost 137.

It is worth remembering that Vernier has won a title in his sports career and it was in Colombian territory, when he won the M15 of Cundinamarca after beating his compatriot Daniel Núñez, with partials of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1.

Previously, this player played five semi-finals of other tournaments, but had never won.
