Brazil, Argentina and Co. will apparently take part in the UEFA Nations League from 2024. UEFA Vice-President Zbigniew Boniek made plans public on Thursday, which would also undermine the World Cup planned by FIFA every two years.
“This is the last Nations League in this system. South America will join from 2024 – I just don’t know in which format,” Boniek told the Polish news portal Meczyki.
A UEFA spokesman confirmed plans to the AFP news agency. “UEFA is working with the CONMEBOL association on several projects, including a joint Nations League. But nothing has been finalized and no decision has yet been made,” said the spokesman.
It was only announced on Wednesday that the continental champions from Europe and South America would play a kind of superchampion from next year. Italy and Argentina will start on June 1, 2022, the game announced as “Finalissima” is to take place in London. A joint office for the associations is also to be set up in London.
All of this is also seen as a sign of the world governing body FIFA. The representatives from Europe and South America had recently gone on a confrontational course at FIFA when it announced its plans for a World Cup every two years.
