South African Premier League vs IPL: Second Season to Start on January 10

Will ‘South African Premier League’ beat IPL; The second season will start on January 10

SA20 is South Africa’s premier T-20 league. The tournament, which started in 2023, is now entering its second season. In the opening match on January 10, defending champions Sunrise Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings will meet at Gkeberha.

Six teams are competing in the second edition of the tournament to be held in the Rainbow Nation. The teams competing in the league are Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Turban Super Giants, Pall Royals and Pretoria Capitals. But the question of whether the SA20 Premier League is ahead of the IPL in terms of cash flow has been debated recently.

Chennai Super Kings who won the 2023 IPL season received Rs 20 crore as prize money. The runner-up Gujarat Titans also got Rs 13 crore. The winning team in the second edition of SA20 will receive a prize money of 34 million rand (around Rs. 15 crore). The second-placed team will receive a share of 16.25 million rand (about Rs. 7.2 crore).

The IPL title winner has been paid Rs 20 crore in the last three seasons. In 2020, the prize money was Rs 10 crore. South Africa’s franchise league is currently below the IPL in terms of prize money. Cricket South Africa is working hard to bring the T20 Premier League to the fore.
