The South African government has been countering the cause of the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) strain head-on to the UK.
According to AFP and Bloomberg news, the South African Health Minister said in a statement on the 24th (local time) that the British government’s announcement “made a misunderstanding as if the main cause of the re-proliferation of Corona 19 in the UK was the South African variant.”
He pointed out that in September, about a month before the development of the South African variety, the British variety had already appeared in Kent in southeastern England.
He also revealed that the corona 19 variant ‘501.V2’ that appeared in South Africa “There is no evidence that it is more contagious than the British variant.”
“There is no evidence that the South African variant has a higher mortality rate or more severe symptoms than other regional variants, including the UK,” he added.
Meanwhile, he criticized the British government’s announcement of a ban on entry from South Africa on the 23rd, pointing out a variant of South Africa and claiming that it appears to have stronger transmission power than the existing virus.
In the UK, a variant known as’VUI-202012/01′ separate from the South African variant has appeared, and the number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing.
The South African government announced on the 18th that a variant of 501.V2 was identified.
