The coronavirus has nothing to do with the decision made by Catherine Anandappane, even if it is true that the health crisis has accelerated the process.
From the first days of this liquidation, messages of support poured in. “It affects us, of course. We had managed to maintain a very strong human dimension, ”observes the manager. Yes but today, regrets will not make up for the shortfall. “We managed to keep clients from the start but that is no longer enough. There is simply no longer enough passage in town to allow a renewal, “soberly says the manager. “When we settled down twenty years ago, there was life on this street. Every morning, we went to drink our coffee at Streiff’s. And today, see for yourself what’s left… We saw children walking on the sidewalk: each time they sang A green mouse, running in the grass … It was joyful. But for three, four years, little music has been gone ”.

The success of the workshops
Souris verte has long been a pioneer in Thionville. Creative hobbies were at the dawn of their best years; the big brands and social networks had not yet conquered the field. The store has built its reputation on workshops and internships held regularly. “We had twenty people every Saturday …” To carry out the work, there were above all two passionate and qualified women in their field. Catherine Anandappane, ceramist by training, and Laurence Monter, jack of all trades in what is close to art crafts. Pearls, lace, carded wool, embroidery … Proposals have never been lacking.

In a few days, this parenthesis of life will close. Catherine Anandappane, however, promises to continue her creativity and her know-how through Souris verte’s Instagram account. In Nancy, where she is leaving to settle, she is already thinking of bouncing back, by organizing textile jewelry creation workshops. Another life to invent.
