More than 40 leaders of PNL county organizations have signed a letter requesting Florin Cîțu to resign from the PNL seat and to leave the place of Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, party sources told G4media.ro. The letter will be handed to Cîțu on Thursday by the party’s first vice-presidents.
If Floin Cîțu refuses to resign, the leaders of the PNL organizations will convene on Friday morning meetings of the County Permanent Bureaus to demand the initiation of the procedure for organizing an extraordinary Congress.
PNL leaders are dissatisfied that Florin Cîțu is straining coalition relations with PSD and that he has a weak image that pulls the party down in the polls.
According to the PNL statute, it is necessary that the majority of the county organizations request the convocation of the National Political Bureau, which in turn decides for the organization of an Extraordinary National Congress. Thus, if Florin Cîțu refuses to resign, the National Political Bureau will be convened on Sunday, April 3.
PNL leaders expect Florin Cîțu to ask in exchange for his resignation that he will be kept in the Senate leadership, or that he will receive a position at European level, but they refuse to offer them to him, say g4media.ro sources.
Another option circulated in PNL is for Florin Cîțu to be allowed to remain the president of the Senate, until an international position is identified at the banking level, say g4media sources.
