NAIROBI (Reuters) – The Ethiopian government and allied forces have captured Shire, one of the largest cities in the northern Tigray region, from the region’s forces, two sources, one diplomatic and the other of humanitarian aid, said.
The Ethiopian federal government and allied forces, including the Eritrean army, have been fighting Tigrinya forces from time to time since 2020.
The conflict has killed thousands of civilians and millions of displaced people, hundreds of thousands of whom are now facing potential famine.
