Source: Germany plans to cut aid to Ukraine in half by 2025

(AFP, Berlin, 17th AFP) German parliamentary sources told AFP today that Germany, which provided the second largest level of aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian war, expects the level of military aid in the 2025 cut by half.

The government of Prime Minister Olaf Scholz will use the money from the freeze on Russian assets as another way to continue supporting the authorities in Kiev. Regarding the 2025 budget plan, the German government does not intend to provide “additional support” to the 4 billion euros of aid set aside.

Berlin authorities have provided 8 billion euros in aid to Ukraine this year.

Another source within the German Finance Ministry indicated that Germany hopes to use “frozen Russian assets to create a financial instrument within the framework of the Group of Seven Industrial Nations (G7) and the European Union (EU )” as a compensation package.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev posted on social media X that “Germany’s political will to continue playing a leading role in supporting Ukraine is closely linked to European security. “

The German budget still needs to be discussed before it is passed by the end of the year. The Treasury Department said today that it was prepared to provide additional spending to Ukraine on a case-by-case basis.

Ukraine’s allies have been studying for several months to establish a mechanism to use part of Russia’s $300 billion in frozen funds around the world to support the Kiev authorities in ‘ resist Russian aggression.
