Sourav Ganguly Defends Virat Kohli’s Participation in all Cricket Formats Despite Akhtar’s Suggestion

Sourav Ganguly, former Indian player and BCCI president, gave a sharp reply to former Pakistan pacer Shuaib Akhtar who said that superbatter Virat Kohli should stop ODIs after the ODI World Cup.

India will host the ODI World Cup in October. Akhtar had said that after the World Cup, Kohli should stop playing 50-over matches and T20Is, focus more on Test cricket and try to surpass the feat of 100 international centuries by legendary player Sachin Tendulkar.

Ganguly, who completely disagreed with Akhtar’s argument, has also given a muted reply. The former Indian captain said that the 34-year-old Kohli should continue playing in all three formats of cricket. ‘Why? Virat Kohli should play in whatever format he wants. Because he is performing well’ – said Ganguly.

Ganguly was responding to a question from reporters regarding Akhtar’s proposal. Kohli is showing great performance in all three formats of cricket. He is the number one run chaser in Twenty20. Scored 4008 runs from 115 Twenty20s. The run scored in ODIs is close to 13,000. He has scored more than 8500 runs in Tests.
