On Saturday, cabaret performer Soundos El Ahmadi played hard in the satirical TV program Dit Was Het Nieuws at the group of (semi-) well-known Dutch people that made themselves immortally ridiculous last week with the short-lived virus-insane # ikdoenietmeermee campaign. After Peter Pannekoek took out his own letter à la Famke Louise at the end of the program with a number of critical questions, Soundos also had a sharp message:
I call that selective activism. Never in your life have you spoken out about any kind of oppression, but now that you run out of weekend schnabbles and can’t show on Insta stories that you’re popping champagne bottles in the club, you’re mad. And that annoys me because it’s just selfishness.
–
And the cabaret artist was not finished with that, because besides the absurd hashtag it was mainly the slogan used by the conspiracy-thinking celebrities that bothered Soundos:
The worst thing I thought was “Free the people”. In a time with Black Lives Matter, with Moria literally on fire, children sleeping in the street, and then you start using “free the people” because your schnabbels have been compromised, you are ashamed, ashamed, ashamed.
