Sound Art: fusion of painting and music at the Madrid Fair

In Madrid’s bustling art scene, JustMAD stands as an epicenter of creativity and avant-garde. Among the proposals that stood out in its recent edition, the work of José Antonio Torres stands out, a Peruvian artist whose exploration of sound art has generated an international impact.

“For me, painting music is a journey of colors and emotions,” declares Torres, whose participation in events such as JustLX Lisbon and exhibitions around the world has sparked interest in his unique approach. In the JustLATAM section of JustMAD Madrid, Torres presented a macro project that turns sound into the soul of paintings and sculptures, fusing different artistic expressions into a visual symphony.

With more than 300 songs portrayed in his work, Torres uses a methodology that combines tools for reading waves with an analysis based on theories of color and composition. His creations reveal an intimate connection between emotions, vibrations and tones, exploring territories where sound becomes pigment and music becomes canvas.

Torres’ proposal, influenced by thinkers such as Aristotle, Newton, Goethe, Klee, Kandinsky and Björk, is part of a tradition of studying sound and its relationship with color. Her experimental approach seeks to transform and reinterpret the work of art, exploring the limits of the creative process and the media it employs.

With more than two decades dedicated to the visual arts, José Antonio Torres has taken his work to cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Paris, Buenos Aires and Lima, among others. In addition to his foray into painting, Torres immerses himself in the study of sound, developing a line of research in sound art and new media.

At JustMAD Madrid, Torres continues to challenge artistic boundaries, inviting the public to immerse themselves in a universe where music and painting converge in an unprecedented sensory experience.
