Soumya Bourouaha takes up the torch from Marie-George Buffet

Former substitute for outgoing deputy Marie-George Buffet, Soumya Bourouaha, aged 58, in turn becomes a PCF deputy with the Nupes alliance in the 4th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis.

In Seine-Saint-Denis, the 4th district thus remains in the hands of a communist woman. The sector brings together Blanc-Mesnil, La Courneuve, Stains and Dugny.

The suspense of this second ballot was non-existent. The competing candidate, Azzedine Taïbi (mayor of Stains and also a communist) had presented himself without the nomination of his party, to finally withdraw during the interval between the two rounds.

A model maker by trade, Soumya Bourouaha began her professional career working in fashion, before turning to teaching. She taught fashion professions for many years in Segpa classes (adapted general and professional education section) integrated into colleges and then into a vocational high school in Saint-Denis.

Currently delegated director of vocational and technological training in a high school in Aubervilliers, Soumya Bourouaha has always lived in Seine-Saint-Denis since her arrival from Algeria with her parents at the age of a few months.

She got involved in politics, with the French Communist Party. Soumya Bourouaha says she is driven by struggles such as education, women’s rights and access to culture.

She was the substitute for the emblematic outgoing MP for this constituency, Marie-George Buffet. Elected since 1997, the latter had decided to step down but remains the substitute…for her former substitute. Mother of two daughters, the new deputy was also deputy mayor of La Courneuve for 12 years, in charge of culture.
