Prolific this season with the Al-Ain club in the UAE championship, Soufiane Rahimi was once again decisive for his team, scoring two of the winning goals (4-3) against the Saudi club Al-Nassr and its star Cristiano Ronaldo in the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League. The performances of the former Raja de Casablanca player this season should convince the national coach, Walid Regragui, to call her up for the Atlas Lions’ two matches in March.

Author of an excellent season with the Al-Ain club with 14 goals scored in all competitions, Soufiane Rahimi was once again decisive for his club in the quarter-final of the Asian Champions League on Monday against the Saudis from Al-Nassr and their star Cristiano Ronaldo. Flamboyant, the former Raja de Casablanca player unlocked the counter for his team in the 28th minute after an overflow on the left flank, before adding a second goal a few minutes later, allowing his team to lead the score in First period.
The Al-Nassr club certainly returned to the match in the second half, by equalizing, but the Al-Aïn players sealed the victory during added time thanks to a goal from Sultan Al Shamsi (100+3).
Rahimi’s appeal to Walid Regragui
Preselected by Walid Regragui for CAN 2023, Soufiane Rahimi was, however, not included in the final list of players who traveled to Ivory Coast. However, the 27-year-old’s XXL performances at club level should be a strong argument for him to regain his place in the Lions’ den. Moreover, Rahimi’s speed and lucidity in front of goal are assets that the national team lacked during the last African Cup. It remains to be seen whether Walid Regragui will summon Rahimi or not. The answer, this Thursday, when the final list was revealed for the two friendly matches in March against Angola and Mauritania.
