SOS Santé hospital with “strong” vigilance

Eight hospitalized patients

“The fifth wave is looming”. Denis Garcia, director of SOS Santé Saint-Avold awaits instructions from the Regional Health Agency on the need or not to increase the reception capacity of intensive care services. Currently, eight people with Covid-19 are being treated in the hospital establishment. Four in intensive care, including a 70-year-old couple placed under intubation. The other two patients (55 and 62 years old) benefit from non-invasive ventilation. These four people are not vaccinated against the coronavirus.

In the medical service – a vital prognosis not committed – there too, four patients aged 84, 80, 69 and 56 are in the hands of medical personnel. Two of them, however, benefited from a vaccination schedule. “Extreme vigilance must be maintained,” proclaims Mr. Garcia. “We must not relax the vaccination campaign and above all it is vital to maintain barrier gestures and the wearing of masks”.

Incidence rate on the rise

In Moselle, the incidence rate of Covid-19 has jumped 14.8% over the past seven days and has just risen to 115/100 000 inhabitants. It is twice the alert rate set at 50/100 000 inhabitants, “which we have exceeded since the beginning of November”, underlines Denis Garcia. In France, this rate is 119/100 000 inhabitants and 121/100 000 inhabitants for the Grand Est.

Strong vigilance

The Saint-Avold hospital center is placed in strong vigilance, which means that it is ready to face the potential 5e wave. Despite this situation, all medical procedures are maintained and the activity, all services combined, remains sustained “but controlled”, specifies Mr. Garcia. The number of places in intensive care is currently eight beds. “We remain very vigilant and are suspended from the decisions of the Regional Health Agency (ARS). If the latter asks us to increase our reception capacity, we will do so without hesitation in coordination with the Metz-Thionville CHR and other establishments in the sector. Our mission is to treat and we will never fail ”.
