Princess Latifa, 36, the daughter of Dubai King Muhammad bin Rashid Almaktoum and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said, breathlessly, with a pale face in the video.
The BBC’s Exploration Program Panorama Team released several videos taken by Princess Latipa, whose whereabouts became apparent after 2018. In the meantime, the Dubai royal family said, “Latifa is being kept safe under the care of her family,” but this video reveals that the princess has been locked in a house for nearly three years at the order of her father.
Princess Latina sat in the corner of the bathroom every time to take a video. He whispered, “My bathroom is the only place in the villa where you can lock the door.” “There are 5 police officers outside the villa and 2 female police officers inside. The windows are locked and I can’t go out to get some air.” In another video, he said, “I worry about my safety and life every day. I don’t know how long I can endure this situation.” Princess Latifa, one of the 25 children of King Muhammad bin Rashid, said in February 2018, “My father oppresses my freedom. I would rather live a life of grilling hamburger patties.” He tried to escape to the United States. With the help of Finnish friend Tina Yauhiainen, who taught the traditional Brazilian martial art Capoeira, he was planning to cross the Arabian Sea to the United States through India, but was caught by a UAE commando in the middle of the sea eight days after his escape.
The footage released by the BBC was shot by herself after Princess Latipa was taken to Dubai. It is known that Tina, a friend who helped escape, handed a video to the broadcasting station for the safety of the princess. Princess Latifa was detained for three years and four months after attempting to escape abroad in search of freedom even when she was 17 in 2002.
King Muhammad bin Rashid is one of the world’s wealthiest national leaders who have grown Dubai into a splendid international city, but UAE women still suffer from conservative Arab law and culture. Princess Latipa is not the only family trying to escape the shackles of the king. Princess Shamsa, Princess Latifa’s older sister, was also caught trying to escape from England in 2000, and Princess Haya fled to England with her two children in 2019.
