Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – National car sales in September were recorded at 84,113 units. This achievement was 73.24% year-on-year (yoy) from sales in September 2020. Meanwhile, sales for the January-August period rose 68.67% yoy to 627,537 units of cars sold.
The government’s stimulus push through PPnBM (Sales Tax on Luxury Goods) 0% seems to have succeeded in stimulating the enthusiasm of the Indonesian automotive industry. Seeing the results of the program, the government has decided to extend the granting of a 100% PPnBM discount until the end of 2021.
However, amid the hegemony of national car sales returning to pre-COVID levels, there are cars that recorded a decrease in sales compared to August 2021.
The CNBC Indonesia Research Team has summarized the order of cars that were not selling well in September 2021. The following is the list:

All new Terios types X and R are cars that experienced a deep sales decline of 100%. This car, which is priced at 230 million, throughout 2021, has sold 5,327 units for type X and 3,493 units for type R.
Then there is the Rocky 1.2 X MT which only sold 2 cars in September. Since it was first sold in June, this type of car has continued to experience a declining trend in sales. Throughout the year Rocky 1.2 X MT 2021 successfully sold 3,487 units.
Ranks four and five are occupied by the ALL New Rush 1.5 TRD Sportivo and the ALL New Rush 1.5 TRD Sportivo A/T. Both of these cars experienced a 98% month-to-month (mom) and 97% mom (mom) sales decline.
The decline in sales of this type is quite surprising to see that they are the second and third most sold cars throughout 2021 and have a market share of 3.9% and 3.0% of the total national car.
After the All New Rush, cars that are in the top 10 most sold throughout 2021 are also included in the blacklist for the most declining sales in September 2021, namely the Brio RS, Xpander Cross 1.5L PREMIUM (4X2) A/T, and HR0V E+.
There are various factors causing the decline in sales, such as car models that are too old, the emergence of the latest types of models, to not being able to compete with competitors.
