Søren Pape Poulsen was just 52 years old.

Pape Poulsen fell ill in the form of a brain haemorrhage at a party meeting in Vejen on Friday, writes the news agency. He was immediately taken to hospital in Odense, but his life could not be saved, according to the message from the party.

They also state that his relatives have said goodbye to him.

– He fell over in the middle of what he had devoted his life to. The political life, which should create a better life for the rest of us. He was in the process of briefing us on elderly policy and foreign policy considerations, and the last thing he experienced was great support from his party colleagues, writes the party’s general secretary, Søren Vandsø, on the party’s website.

Søren Pape Poulsen has been leader of De Konservative since 2014 and a member of the Danish Parliament since 2015.

From November 2016 to June 2019, he was Denmark’s Minister of Justice.

Before becoming a national politician, he was mayor of the Danish city of Viborg.

Vandsø further writes about Pape Poulsen that everyone who knew him knows that he was a caring person.

– He always thought of others first, writes the general secretary about the late party leader.

The right-wing party leader in Norway, Erna Solberg, has commented on the death on Saturday evening:

– (…) very, very sad to hear about @SorenPape death. Far too early. We who have worked with him in the Nordics remember him with joy and warmth. A loss for us all, she writes on X/Twitter, and sends her greetings to his party colleagues in Denmark.
