3. Use a humidifier
Use a humidifier to remove dry air. Dry air can make a sore throat worse. Additionally, make sure to clean the humidifier regularly to prevent mold or bacteria from growing.
4. Sucking hard candy or lozenges
Consider using lozenges or hard candy. Both can relieve sore throats. However, do not give it to children aged 4 years and under because of the risk of choking.
5. Gargle with salt water
Swish 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of table salt into 120 to 240 ml of warm water. Gargling salt water can help relieve a sore throat. Children over 6 years old and adults can gargle the solution and spit it out.
6. Consume warm drinks or food
Warm fluids such as broth, caffeine-free tea, warm water with honey can soothe a sore throat. However, do not give honey to children under 1 year of age.
7. Avoid irritants
Make sure the house is free from cigarette smoke and cleaning products that can irritate the throat.
8. Stay home
Stay at home until you are healthy again. This can help protect other people from contracting flu or other viruses.
