Santiago, Chile (ots/PRNewswire) – SORCIA has entered into an agreement for over 2000 hectares to mine lithium with innovative, sustainable technology
SORCIA CHILE SPA (SORCIA), a wholly owned subsidiary of the US company SORCIA MINERALS LLC, has an agreement with RJR SALAR SPA (RJR) met to mine lithium in the Maricunga Salar in the Atacama region.
Sorcia continues to pursue the goal of introducing an innovative and extremely sustainable technology in Chile, developed by the Canadian company INTERNATIONAL BATTERY METALS, LTD. (IBAT), and which enables the production of lithium, whereby over 90% of the brine obtained is reinjected in its natural state, water consumption is minimized and mobile and modular systems are used that interfere less with the land.
“Selective Absorption” lithium technology was developed in the late 1980s by Dr. John Burba, CEO of IBAT, invented. The latest version of Dr. Burba’s proprietary technology enables more efficient extraction than current methods, reducing the carbon footprint, drastically reducing the consumption of water and brine in the salar and protecting the surrounding ecosystem.
The growing demand for lithium, driven by electromobility, requires the use of clean technologies that ensure the preservation of resources and guarantee the living conditions of the local communities that are already challenged by the scarcity of water resources.
The exploration work is carried out in collaboration with the UNIVERSITÄT SANTIAGO DE CHILE (USACH), SORCIAs strategic partner for research, development and implementation of new sustainable technologies for mineral extraction.
This acquisition is a continuation of Sorcia’s parent company Ensorcia Metals Corporation’s goal of expanding the entire supply chain, including carbonate and hydroxide plants under development and planned for Europe.
