Sophos makes source code Sandboxie available and closes forum on June 1 – Computer – News

Sophos keeps his promise to publish the source code of the popular sandbox software Sandboxie. The company wants the tool to continue independently as an open source project and expects to close the Sandboxie website in the fall. The forum will close on June 1.

Sophos claims be in conversation with users to transfer the development of Sandboxie as an open source project. The source code is released under a GPL v3 license. The current version of Sandboxie is the latest to be released by Sophos and the company will no longer be releasing any updates. The license server closes on 1 June and Sophos no longer performs license checks since version 5.31.1 of Sandboxie.

The plug will also be removed from the forum on 1 June. The website of the software will remain online for the time being, but Sophos will undress it in phases and expects to stop the website completely in the fall, after which Sandboxie should therefore continue as an independent open source project. Last September, Sophos made the software to freeware and then the company already announced the intention that Sandboxie should continue as an open source application.
