A thumbs up will count towards the hearts or likes. The number of thumbs down a comment gets will not be visible to users. If you give a comment a thumbs down, only Twitter itself will receive that information.
“This is not a dislike button,” the social media giant makes clear. “In this research experiment, the thumbs down icon is a downward voice that lets us know you don’t think the answer is relevant to the conversation.” Twitter wants to gain more insight into the types of answers that Twitter users are and are not interested in.
