Critics and fans agree: “Wonder Woman” with Gal Gadot as Power Amazon is at the absolute forefront of the DCEU – which no longer exists. If you want to reminisce again, you can do so briefly on Prime Video.
Regardless of whether it was “Man of Steel”, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, “Suicide Squad” or “Aquaman”: they all received more and less criticism, while the creative minds behind the DC Extended Universe kept changing had to say that the Marvel competition does everything much, much better. With “Wonder WomanHowever, the tide suddenly turned, because suddenly the DCEU also had a real highlight to show. We gave it 4.5 out of 5 possible stars – just like we did for James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and “The Flash”.
But: The DCEU is now history again, because the film universe is being rebooted as a DCU by mastermind James Gunn. Do you want to reminisce again or even watch “Wonder Woman” for the first time? Then you can subscribe to Amazon Prime Video. However, only until November 23rd.

This is “Wonder Woman”
Diana (Gal Gadot) grew up on Themyscira, the island of the Amazons, where women rule and there are no men. But even on the paradisiacal island it’s about power. As a child, Diana learns to fight from her aunt Antiope (Robin Wright) and is prepared for a battle that could break out in the distant future. When the American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) makes an emergency landing on the island and reports on a terrible war, Diana suspects that the work of the god of war Ares is behind it.
So she follows Steve into the human world and leaves her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), behind to look for Ares where the battle is thickest and the suffering of the people is greatest. But in the turmoil of the First World War, Diana first has to deal with the German military leader General Ludendorff (Danny Huston) and his loyal scientist Dr. Maru (Elena Anaya) to do…
An absolute DC highlight
In the official FILMSTARTS review, “Wonder Woman” received an excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars. Chief critic Christoph Petersen writes in his conclusion: “Although she didn’t even appear in the title, Wonder Woman emerged as the secret winner from the giant duel ‘Batman V Superman’ in 2016 – “But after her outstanding solo film, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince is now finally the biggest asset of the new Justice League.”
“The superheroine blockbuster is easily the best DC film since ‘The Dark Knight’: Patty Jenkins not only gets a lot of things right that her colleagues have screwed up again and again in recent years, she also exposes the whole brooding anti-hero thing. The posturing of the DC cinema universe as a pubescent boy’s behavior, while Diana, aka Wonder Woman, is fully focused on the really important things.
This can be said: Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is not only the heroine we deserved, but also the heroine we so desperately needed!
Equally terrific is Chris Pine, who is at his absolute best here: “He has never been better than here when he is allowed to respond to Diana’s naive inquiries or resolute demands. […] And not only that: Sparks fly between Pine and Gadot in a way that we have never seen in such a believable way in any other superhero film. Maybe at least that actually required a woman in the director’s chair.”
