Soon the end of queues in stores? Carrefour tests the checkout by appointment!

In the midst of the “barrier gestures” period and in order to reduce the waiting time at the cash desks of its stores, Carrefour will test from August 25 in one of its Parisian hypermarkets the “C’Réservé” device. It is in fact an online reservation service for slots for the checkout.

Once in the store, the customer will have to scan a QR Code displayed in the supermarket which will redirect them to the application, in order to choose a time slot of fifteen minutes to pay for their purchases. Beforehand, the customer must indicate whether he does his shopping with a basket or a cart.

Carrefour is not at its first attempt and had already tried the experiment in 2016. The service, however, had not won over customers. Except that in 2020, we have the right to tell ourselves that with the current context of the health crisis, it is useful to make the checkout more fluid. The enthusiasm will therefore certainly be at the rendezvous in this test phase.

Speeding up the checkout process to avoid putting off customers in a hurry does not prevent you from thinking of those who, on the contrary, wish to take all their time and chat with the cashier. This is the purpose of the “blah blah cash ” designed by Carrefour and currently tested in four of the group’s hypermarkets in France.

Nothing says whether such a system is also envisaged in Belgium at the present time.
