Head coach Rick Tocchet may well not return to the helm of the Arizona Coyotes next season.
At least that’s what TSN reporter Darren Dreger suggested on Friday.
At the conclusion of the current National Hockey League (NHL) campaign, the 57-year-old pilot’s contract ends. He had a four-year agreement, which he obtained in July 2017.
So far, Tocchet has maintained a 123-131-34 record behind the “Yotes” bench. He led his training in the playoffs only once. This season, the Coyotes are already guaranteed to miss the playoffs.
Before leading in Arizona, Tocchet was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins for three seasons, from 2014 to 2017. He therefore won two Stanley Cups with this club. The Scarborough native was also the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008-09 and 2009-10. He was on the coaching staff for the Colorado Avalanche (2002-2004) and Coyotes (2005-2006).
Tocchet also played in the NHL from 1984 to 2001, where he played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals and Coyotes. In 1,144 games, he hit the target 440 times and provided 512 assists for 952 points.
