Things are not looking good in the UK. The numbers are rising rapidly and if they follow this pace, according to some experts, they could soon be up to 100,000 new infections per day. The planned relaxations would therefore probably also be postponed.

The number of infections with the Delta variant doubles every nine days in the United Kingdom. A further 7,738 Britons have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours. That is a lot more than the number of infections reported two weeks ago. Then there were 3,398. About 90 percent of the infections in the UK are currently due to the Delta variant or better known as the Indian variant.
But experts have already indicated that the actual number of daily infections is likely to be more than double the effectively detected cases. According to Anthony Costello of University College London, the number of new cases could reach 100,000 per day within a month. That while the UK has planned ‘Freedom Day’ on June 21 and plans to relax the lockdown then. “If the government takes the gamble, the NHS (British health care, ed.) be overloaded. Let’s wait. Let it remain as it is now.”
The number of hospitalizations would also increase. According to Chaand Nagpaul, chief executive of the British Medical Association, the number of hospital admissions would rise to 2,000 a day. “And it’s not just those hospitalizations, but also the risk that large numbers of younger people are involved. They may suffer from the symptoms in the long term.”
Meanwhile, there would already be a lot of speculation to postpone the easing of the lockdown until July 19.
