Soon, NASA Is Preparing To Collect Samples Of Second Mars Rocks

Suara.com – Explorer NASA on Mars, Perseverance, will soon undertake a second relief sample collection effort on the Red Planet.

Previously, on September 1, the car-sized explorer managed to collect rock sample The first Mars to be nicknamed Rochette.

This is a milestone in NASA’s ambitious mission.

Perseverance team members plan to repeat that success again by taking more samples from the same rock.

“I have taken Mars sample first and I’m ready to take a second sample of the same rock. This time, I will run the entire coring and sealing tube process without a break,” wrote Perseverance’s official Twitter account on September 7.

Reported from Space.com, Thursday (9/9/2021), Perseverance landed inside the 45 km wide Jezero Crater in February to look for signs of ancient Martian life and collect and store dozens of rock samples.

The pure Martian material will be sent back to Earth in a joint campaign by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). A sample return is scheduled for early 2031.

The rover had previously attempted to take its first sample on August 5, but the rock drilled that day shattered into pieces and escaped the tube.

Perseverance retried a similar effort on September 1 by targeting new rock Rochette.

To make sure that the rock actually got into the sample storage tube, the new mission team announced the success on September 4.

As a sample collection effort this time around, experts say it will be more concise, potentially helping the mission team to complete an efficient and effective sample collection process.
