After the smartphone with a selfie sensor under the screen, Huawei is working on biometric authentication this time around. More specifically, the Chinese manufacturer would consider place fingerprint sensors under the entire screen, and not on a delimited part. It is in any case that foreshadows a patent of the company, filed in the Chinese, European, American, Japanese, South Korean and Indian markets.

According to these patents relayed by our colleagues from the Android Authority site, this technology could have multiple advantages. First of all, it would be particularly useful as part of the application lock. Indeed, in addition to unlocking access to your smartphone, this technology would allow the user to lock and unlock an application on the fly, just by putting his finger on the icon of the app in question.

Multiple functionalities

In addition, the presence of fingerprint sensors under the entire screen would simply allow easier access to your applications. Let’s say, if you receive an SMS, just click on it to automatically be directed to the Messages application, without going through the compulsory unlocking box.

Huawei then states that the user will have the freedom ” to activate the sensors in a chosen area of the screen while deactivating the rest of the screen space ”. In other words, it will for example be possible to deactivate the sensors at the top of the screen, in case you prefer to identify yourself on the lower part. This manipulation will also allow you save battery, according to Huawei.

As a reminder, this is not the first time that we find this kind of technology in a smartphone. Already in 2019, Le Vivo Apex 2019 offered fingerprint sensors under the entire screen. Moreover, Xiaomi had also unveiled a fingerprint sensor under the screen on video in January 2019. Among other projects in progress, Huawei has filed another patent concerning a rather surprising smartphone with a sliding screen.
