However, there are still a few key elements for the further development of this market – tells us Przemysław Szywacz, Partner at KPMG. As he admits, the charging infrastructure emerges in the first place here. “We expect growth in the coming years,” he adds.

The heads of automotive companies from Europe are convinced that multi-billion investments in new factories and powertrains will bring the expected, large benefits. 80 percent is convinced that the industry over the next five years will see a greater increase in profitability compared to the current state – according to the KPMG report entitled “Global Automotive Executive Survey”

However, great optimism is tempered by the challenges the industry will have to face in the near future. Among them, the following can be mentioned in particular:

  • lack of appropriate skills of employees,
  • problems with the supply of materials and components,
  • turbulent geopolitical situation
  • and difficult macroeconomic conditions.

75 percent of representatives of European automotive companies fear that inflation and high interest rates will have a negative impact on their business in 2023. The least concerns about the situation in the industry are expressed by automotive companies in Chinaand the largest can be seen in Asia and North America.

Compared to the previous edition of the study, the prospects for the development of the electric car market have changed dramatically. In the 2021 edition of the study, automotive directors from Europe were very optimistic about the sales prospects of electric cars, estimating that they could reach up to 49 percent. share in the European market by 2030. In the latest edition of the KPMG survey, conducted at the end of 2022, these estimates fell to 24 percent. total sales of passenger cars in 2030 on our continent.
