Soon electric driving “without” charging? Dutch company presents first commercial solar car

The first batch of Lightyear solar cars went out for 150,000 euros, those who order one now pay 250,000 euros. Huge amounts for what a commercial car should be. Production of the car will start this fall and the first car will be delivered in November. A maximum of 946 Lightyear 0’s will be made.

“All technology is expensive in the beginning,” says Hoefsloot. “We’ve been looking for a way to quickly develop the technology and prove that this way of driving is possible, but the next step is to make the cars affordable as well.” The aim is to develop a car with a range of 600 to 700 kilometers for 30,000 euros: production of the successor to the Lightyear 0 is planned for late 2024, early 2025.
