Emmanuel Macron announced at the beginning of the week, it wants to develop the RER everywhere in France and even an RER in Toulon in the Var. The objective is simple, to facilitate the movement of users in cities where there is too much traffic and also to promote the ecological transition. This means of transport makes it possible to transport many users (50,000 per hour, 1,000 per train) while emitting very little carbon, a good point for the environment.

Currently, around fifteen projects are already under construction throughout France, which will see the light of day in about ten years.

For the Toulon RER, an 11.2 million euro station, located opposite the Sainte-Musse hospital, will go into service on 11 December at 6:55 am, after a year of construction. Steps that will be performed regularly, every 10 – 15 minutes to please users. This is a first step for the Toulon “RER”. The two platforms, which are located on each side, have been completed, as well as the walkway with the lift for people with reduced mobility and a secure shelter for bicycles. TER ticket vending machines will soon see the light of day, as will passenger information panels.

Early estimates tend towards an annual passenger attendance of 100,000. A first stage in this RER project in Toulon which should extend from Saint-Cyr to Carnoules.

Marseille and Nice are also part of the New Line project mentioned by Emmanuel Macron. Work is expected to start in spring 2024.
