Large corporations rarely share detailed sales figures for their games, especially if they are listed on a stock exchange and must be careful with any information they provide publicly. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that hackers, dissatisfied with the lack of information, break into servers and drivers to get the data they want. Sometimes for satisfaction, sometimes for ransom.
Last year’s Insomniac Games hack had many unpleasant consequences for Sony and the entire PlayStation, and we can still see its effects today. A Sony document has just been released online, in which we can see the actual sales results of all productions and game packages from PlayStation Studios that the Japanese released on PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4 and PS5. In short, a list of Sony’s best sellers and biggest failures in the entire history of PlayStation Network has been released.
Sony’s greatest hits seem to be Spider-Man, The Last of Us, God of War, Gran Turismo and Horizon. Here is the list of the top 10 games in PlayStation Network history:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man – $315 million
- God of War: Ragnarok – $279 million
- The Last of Us Part II – $242 million
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales – $231 million
- God of War (PS4) – $229 million
- Ghost of Tsushima – $215 million
- Horizon: Zero Dawn – $160 million
- Horizon: Forbidden West – $150 million
- Gran Turismo 7 – $141 million
- The Last of Us Remastered – $108 million
Additionally, only Gran Turismo Sport ($101.5 million) and Days Gone ($100.5 million) crossed the $100 million barrier. Interestingly, many of you may be interested in the fact that Bloodborne is the 15th highest rated first-party game on PlayStation Network, followed by Death Stranding (PS4 version), Detroit Become Human and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in the top 20.
Regarding the biggest failures in Sony’s history, here are some interesting facts. A package of two PSX classics, i.e. MediEvil + Siphon Filter, in the PlayStation 3 store was bought by 10 people, which shows that at that time, however, there were no results – each one of these games respectively have achieved much better results. In addition, we have Kill Strain (do you still remember?) with as many as 338 downloads, and Drawn to Death from the author of the Twisted Metal and God of War series was downloaded with “as many as” 3,850 people. Perhaps an interesting sign of the times at the beginning of digital distribution is the fact that only 11,000 players bought Demon’s Souls on PS3 digitally.
