Sony has announced the closure of its PixelOpus studio, developer of PlayStation Studios, as the company will begin the closing process gradually until next June 2, which is the date scheduled to stop studio operations permanently.
PixelOpus Studio said in a tweet on Twitter: “Dear friends, the PixelOpus adventure has come to an end, and as we look forward to a new future, we wanted to extend our sincere thanks to the millions of passionate players who have supported us, and to our team who have made beautiful and imaginative games from the heart. We are very grateful.”
Sony said: “PlayStation Studios regularly evaluates its portfolio and the status of studio projects to ensure that they meet the short- and long-term strategic objectives of the organization, and as part of its recent review process, it was decided to close PixelOpus on June 2.”
PixelOpus was founded in 2014 and released its first game, Entwined, later that year. The game was also announced as a surprise during Sony’s E3 conference and made available on the same day.
This was also followed by the adventure game Concrete Genie in 2019, which was nominated for several awards including two BAFTA Game Awards, and it was announced in June 2021 that the third PixelOpus game will be a PS5 game developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation, but the fate of it is not known. this project.
