Sony’s Next-Generation Console: Compact Design and Controversial Changes

Sony continues the tradition and offers a more compact next-generation console model. The company did not use the term “Slim”, since the future new product will replace the device released in 2020.

Gamers accused the corporation of not making major changes to the design, which was criticized by many. The slim model for PS4 was significantly different.

The significant change is called a “hidden price increase” – Sony did not focus on this, but in the US the Digital Edition will cost $50 more – the original is $399.99, and the new one is $449.99. Buyers fear that a similar decision will be made in other countries. According to plans, the new model will first enter the US market.

And if you want to position the console vertically, the gamer needs to pay extra for a stand. A small piece of plastic costs $29.99.

Some gamers have justified the decision to remove the stand by pointing out that the console now offers a 1TB SSD, but not everyone is convinced that the larger drive (the launch model came with 825GB, of which users could use about 660GB) is all that big innovation in 2023.
