Sony’s Alpha 9 III: Revolutionizing Photography with Global Shutter Technology

Sony has unveiled a revolutionary new camera, the Alpha 9 III, the world’s first full-frame global image sensor. This amazing feature has the potential to revolutionize photography as the Alpha 9 III opens up an exciting new world for professional photographers.

The camera’s full-frame, pan-shutter image sensor enables shooting at burst speeds of up to 120 fps without distortion or blur. This feature is enhanced by Sony’s advanced AF system, which includes AI AF, providing AF/AE calculations up to 120 times per second. This is in addition to the camera’s ability to synchronize the flash at all shooting speeds.

This high-tech camera delivers a new dimension in still image performance, along with improved distortion-free video performance. Designed with the needs of professional photographers in mind, this camera offers high-speed workflow solutions and scale that support fast image rendering.

In addition to the global shutter image sensor, the Alpha 9 III is equipped with a newly developed full-frame superimposed CMOS image sensor with an effective resolution of 24.6 megapixels and built-in memory. When paired with Sony’s latest image processing engine, BIONZ XR, the camera achieves blur-free continuous shooting speeds of up to approximately 120 fps with AF/AE tracking.

The AI recognizes various types of subjects with high accuracy, and the real-time recognition greatly improves the recognition performance of the human eye through real-time AF and tracking, which automatically recognizes, tracks, and focuses on the eyes of a specific subject.

Breaking free from the limitations of traditional mechanical shutter image sensors, the Alpha 9 III achieves a maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 sec (1/16,000 sec during continuous shooting). This allows high-speed capture without any distortion. When used with a compatible Sony flash, flash sync images can be captured at all shutter speeds up to 1/80,000 sec.

The Alpha 9 III also has video performance advantages. The all-round image sensor provides distortion-free video recording, easing the burden on video creators. It is the first camera in the Alpha series to record high frame rate video at 4K and 120p without cropping, allowing the user to capture the angle of the subject. It can also shoot 4K and 60p HD videos with 6K oversampling.

The camera places a strong emphasis on portability and reliability for professionals. The handle is ergonomically designed for easy handling, even with extended use or with lenses attached. The VG-C5 Vertical Grip (sold separately) provides the same operational comfort as when shooting horizontally.

Introducing new functional improvements and applications, the Alpha 9 III features a trigger image filter for efficient selection of large amounts of images using high-speed continuous shooting.

The Alpha 9 III will be available in Australia in Q1 2024, with a retail price of AU$10,499.00. The VG-C5 Vertical Grip will also be available in Australia from Q1 2024.
