Sony wows its PSVR 2, Samsung misses its shot with the Galaxy S21 FE

New year, new tech tops / flops! For this first edition of 2022, NextPit has chosen companies, products or personalities that have excited or disappointed us. During this CES week, Sony is the top tech while Samsung is the flop.

The first week of the New Year is coming to an end and it is slowly no longer a good idea to wish a “Happy New Year”. However, we would like to highlight two companies that disappointed or particularly excited us during calendar week number 1.

However, before we move on to the best and worst of the past seven days, check out the top NextPit headlines from the past week below:

Top Tech of the Week: Sony Shows the Future of Home VR

As part of CES 2022, Sony presented in a surprising way, the PlayStation VR 2. The successor to the exciting PSVR, released in October 2016, will therefore arrive in the coming months. Combined with the PlayStation 4, the PSVR cost less than 1,000 euros, which made it significantly more affordable than a PC alternative accompanied by a powerful gaming PC. When I tested the PSVR a few years ago, however, I was a bit disappointed with the refresh rate, resolution and field of view.

Now is where our top tech of the week comes in. Indeed, Sony has presented some really promising specs for the PSVR 2. With an OLED display and a high resolution of 2,000 x 2,400 pixels, HDR compatibility, a field of 110 ° vision and Foveated rendering technology, the successor to the PSVR could become significantly more immersive. Added to this is the power of the PlayStation 5, which you can connect to the headphones with a single USB-C cable.

So the PSVR 2 could look like a pretty much affordable and powerful enough VR headset. And bring us closer to a future where AR and VR will be more of a part of everyday life. This is the next step for which companies like Oppo are also preparing with its Air Glass and Apple with its Apple Glass or Apple View.

Tech flop of the week: Samsung for releasing the Galaxy S21 FE too late

As an active NextPit reader, you will surely have guessed our tech flop of the week. The presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has already prompted me to publish an opinion piece during this week. Indeed, the Galaxy S21 FE arrives too late and lands on the market too soon before the presentation of the S22 series. In my opinion, this is mostly unfair to those for whom the smartphone is aimed.

Samsung fans are now lost. Should you buy the Galaxy S21 on sale or the Galaxy S21 FE, which will be marketed at a price of 749 euros? Or should we rather wait for the Galaxy S22, which will be released with the new Exynos 2200 and AMD’s RDNA2 architecture. Samsung relies on the lifestyle argument. But what is the “lifestyle” in buying a minimally adapted design of a smartphone that’s barely a year old?

Only Samsung probably knows the answer, so we just have to speculate on the subject in the comments.

Why has Samsung launched the S21 FE again? And should we start converting NextPit to VR already? Share your thoughts in the comments!
