The PlayStation 5 has been on the market for almost 3 months now, but it is still very difficult to get the new console. Sony PlayStation CFO Hiroki Totoki has to ARSTechnica let us know exactly why.
The Japanese company wants to deliver new PlayStation 5 consoles to stores at least as quickly as they did with the PlayStation 4. The problem is that there are component shortages. Semiconductors, in particular, are difficult to get hold of, which is also a problem for PC owners looking to upgrade.
Even though it is difficult to produce enough consoles, Sony wants to do everything it can to meet the high demand. However, there is a good chance that the situation as it is now will persist for a long time, AMD recently said that hinted.
“It is difficult for us to increase production of the PS5 amid the shortage of semiconductors and other components, We have not been able to fully meet the high level of demand from customers [but] we continue to do everything in our power to ship as many units as possible to customers who are waiting for a PS5.”
