It can be considered a bigger investment buying Bungie for $3.6 billion. The creators of Bungie are supposed to oversee the upcoming live-service games that are created in the teams of PlayStation Studios. But so far none has been released and The Last of Us multiplayer was supposed to be frozen.

But according to analysts, this is not enough, and Sony is under pressure to make a significant acquisition as well. Dr. Serkan Toto (founder and president of Kantan Games, a consulting firm specializing in the Japanese video game market) expects more investments and acquisitions from PlayStation, including a major transaction that could tip the balance significantly in Sony’s favor.
For example, fans are calling for Take-Two Interactive to be acquired, which owns Rockstar Games with Grand Theft Auto. Take-Two is worth roughly $24.6 billion. Or the acquisition of Bandai Namco with a value of around $13.5 billion is speculated. Other analysts do not expect such a large investment. For example, Karol Severin from Midia Research considers such a move unlikely. According to him, Sony should rather take advantage of its strong position in film, TV, games and music and bring a new subscription offer, which could better compete with Xbox Game Pass. According to him, it will be increasingly difficult for Sony to compete with Microsoft only with games.
