Sony has unveiled a series of motion capture trackers called Mocopi. The set consists of six sensors and works with a smartphone app that records movements. It will cost the equivalent of 345 euros.
sony seems to focus mostly on VTubers with Mocopi. These are streamers, often YouTubers, who use a virtual avatar when streaming. They use, among other things, real-time motion capture software to record movements.
The Mocopi kit is supposed to be a relatively inexpensive alternative to more expensive mocap devices and software. The six sensors weigh 8 grams each and are strapped to the user’s head, ankles, arms and hip. Mocopi comes with a companion app that logs your movements and links them to a model. The app can only be used on select Sony Xperia phones and the iPhone models 12, 13 and 14. The sensors connect to the app via Bluetooth. Motion capture trackers also work with the Unity engine and VRChat.
The Mocopi set will be released in January in the Japanese market. It is not yet known whether the trackers will eventually appear for the European market as well.
