Sony to Boost PS5 Production by 50%

Jakarta

Sony will launch PlayStation 5 (PS5) in a matter of months if there are no obstacles. To meet demand, the Japanese tech giant is boosting PS5 production by 50%.

Quoted detikINET from The Verge, Thursday (07/16/2020) a report from Nikkei and Bloomberg said Sony would increase PS5 production to 10 million units in 2020.

Initially, Sony had planned to produce 5-6 million console units by the end of March 2021. But both publications said there would be a surge in demand for gaming and entertainment devices amid the Corona virus pandemic.

Sony reportedly has begun production PS5 on a large scale last June, and is expected to produce 5 million units by the end of September. Meanwhile another 5 million units will be produced between October and December.

Although 10 million of these units will be produced in 2020, not all of them will be available on the market this year. It is likely that there will be logistical problems which will hamper part of the distribution of PS5 units until 2021

Sony is also said to be boosting production of the DualSense controller for the PS5. They originally planned to produce 10 million controller units.

Gaming devices have indeed been excellent during this pandemic because many people are looking for entertainment while staying at home. Call it Nintendo who was overwhelmed to meet the demands of the soaring Switch in the pandemic era.

Sony itself is expected to launch PS5 ahead of the Christmas holiday season this year. Although currently the design and several exclusive games for this new generation console have been announced, it is still unknown at what price and the exact date of launch.
