Sony stops distributing movies and anime in Russia

Sony Pictures has now chosen to temporarily suspend all its operations in Russia as a result of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Variety reports that the company will not release any new movies, like the upcoming Morbius, in the country or make TV series and movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home available for home viewing. The company has also discontinued the animation streaming service Crunchyroll’s operations in Russia.

In addition, Sony has also donated two million dollars to UNHCR’s and Save the Children relief efforts in Ukraine.

“We stand with many companies around the world that have now suspended their operations in Russia, and in support of the humanitarian work that is currently underway in Ukraine and the surrounding region,” writes Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra in a message to the company’s employees and continues.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected and we hope a peaceful solution can be reached soon.”
