Sony shows new PlayStation 5 user interface

Sony PlayStation 5 prices

We are only a few weeks away from the official Playstation 5 release. To keep us sweet, a video of the PlayStation user interface has now been published.

The year 2020 has certainly not become what everyone expected of it. Also in the world of tech, a number of great launches have been postponed or canceled. Fortunately, this does not apply to the new consoles; these are still planned for November 2020. As a sweetener, Sony shows in its latest YouTube-video what the PlayStation 5 user interface will look like.

In the video we see how a boot module works when you take the console out of ‘Rest Mode’. You then log in with the correct user, to see the new PlayStation 5 interface in all its glory, also known as ‘Control Center’. You have direct access to this overview page at the touch of a button. Also nice: you don’t have to leave a game to reach the Control Center.

What is immediately noticeable is that the menu runs and works incredibly smoothly. The menu is also a bit busier than we are used to from PlayStation, although this is partly because you can see the game you are currently playing in the background (in this case Sackboy: A Big Adventure). It is not clear whether you are viewing the PlayStation 5-game can turn off in the background.

A new feature is ‘Activities’, shown as cards in the Control Center. Through these activities, you can discover new gameplay options, go back to places where you missed achievements, or complete specific challenges. The great thing about the ‘Activity Cards’ is that they can be displayed next to games. Can’t find the item you want? Then play the tip video while you continue playing.

The video of the PlayStation 5 user interface also shows how fast the SSD works in practice. Everything loads super fast; there is virtually no waiting time between the menu and the continuation of your gameplay. Please note that the gameplay video is a ‘work in progress’; the final PlayStation 5 user interface may look slightly different.
