Sony Secures Chip so PS5 is No Longer Rare : Okezone techno

SINCE PlayStation 5 console released (PS5) looks like a rare item that is hard to get. One of the reasons is because of the shortage of chips caused by the corona virus pandemic.

However, Sony officials recently revealed that the company has now secured enough chips to meet its production targets.

This was revealed by Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki during the company’s earnings report.

Quoted from Cnet, Friday (6/8/2021), Totoki said the company has enough chips to reach the production target of 14.8 million PS5 this year.

Sony said last week it had sold 10 million PS5s since the console launched nine months ago.

The scarcity of the PS5 in the market is indeed a major problem for gamers who already want to try out this console. In retail stores, PS5 restocks are usually erratic and the number of units available is so limited that they sell out in minutes.

Not to mention the problem of hoarders buying PS5s in retail stores using bots, and then reselling them at higher prices. Retailers have tried various ways to combat bots, but they don’t seem to have much effect.
