As you know, Helldivers II has been very popular since its launch in February. One of the reasons that player numbers have just continued to grow is the incredible work of Arrowhead Game Studios in constantly updating and changing the game. So, many were put to bed when Sony confirmed that the PC version would require a PSN account in the future. This caused a very negative response on Steam, that the game removed from PC in 177 countries and reimbursement applications. Then it was only a matter of time before today’s announcement came.
Because it looks like Sony says they heard feedback, so they don’t require Helldivers II players on PC to connect to their PSN account anyway.
“Helldivers fans – we’ve heard your feedback about the Helldivers 2 account link update. The May 6 update, which required linking a Steam and PlayStation Network account for new players and for current players starting on May 30, to do.
We’re still learning what’s best for PC gamers, and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2, and we’ll keep you posted on future plans.”
This is basically good news, but at the same time I wonder if this makes it less likely that we will get a so-called cross-progress, ie the opportunity to progress from PS5 to PC and vice versa. Time will tell, but for now, PC gamers can at least put down their torches.
