Sony reveals Final Fantasy XVI will remain PlayStation 5 exclusive for six months – Games – News

Sony announced in a trailer that Final Fantasy XVI will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5 for six months after its release in the summer of 2023. The same trailer shows that Forspoken will remain exclusive to that console for two years.

In both cases call Sony the ‘PS5 Exclusive’ games, but leaves open the question of whether this also excludes the PC versions of the games concerned for the periods mentioned. In the case of Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken, it is certain during the six months and two years respectively that these games will not be released for other consoles.

The wording of the designation of the exclusivity period raises questions; Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios let us know first that there is “at least a year between the release of a game on PlayStation and its next version for the PC platform”. This would not be true in the case of Final Fantasy XVI, as long as PS5 Exclusive does not rule out a release on PC.

In the case of Square Enix ‘Forspoken, in previous promotional material there was talk of console exclusivity, so a PC version wasn’t emphatically ruled out. Now, Sony says the game will remain PS5 exclusive until January 23, 2025, which could potentially mean the game won’t be available for PC until two years after its original release. Sony has yet to answer Tweakers’ questions about the details surrounding the PS5 exclusive.
