Sony Indonesia has officially launched its newest lens, the lens FE 14mm F1.8 GM (model SEL14F18GM) which further expands the range of E-mount lenses Sony.
This new lens allows users to capture various moments with new perspectives in high resolution, especially when shooting landscapes, architecture, astrographs, interiors, wide-shot recording, and self-vlogging.
Koji Sekiguchi, Marketing Director PT Sony Indonesia says, “Lens FE 14mm F1.8 GM is here in Indonesia to meet and support the needs of photographers and videographers in producing stunning works with new perspectives in high resolution.”
Lens FE 14mm F1.8 GM features a compact optical design, where this lens comes in at just 83mm x 99.8mm and weighs approx. 460g.
The two XA (extreme aspherical) elements in this lens are able to maintain excellent resolution throughout the image area even at corners, in a compact and lightweight design.
Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one Super ED glass element provide optical enhancements that suppress chromatic aberrations and provide excellent contrast and precise rendering across all apertures.
Users can precisely render point sources of light thanks to the maximum aperture of F1.8, making it possible to capture astrophotography or shoot in other low-light environments without resorting to extremely slow shutter speeds.
When shooting in challenging lighting conditions, the original Nano AR Coating II technology Sony maximizes clarity by reducing flare and ghosting.
Lens FE 14mm F1.8 GM can produce bokeh at F1.8, even with the ultra-wide 14mm focal length.
With a minimum focus distance of 0.25m, FE 14mm F1.8 GM offers wider possibilities for shooting stills and close-up videos, as well as creating bokeh.
Additionally, the precise XA element, 9-blade circular aperture mechanism, and optimally managed aberration allow FE 14mm F1.8 GM produces beautiful background bokeh without the unwanted onion-ring effect.
Using two Linear XD (extreme dynamic) Motors, focus can be achieved and maintained accurately even when shooting with a narrow depth of field at F1.8.
Other than that, FE 14mm F1.8 GM enables silent AF with minimal vibration for smooth focus transitions, perfect for video content creation.

The new lens also features several versatile control options, including a focus hold button, focus mode switch, and focus ring to ensure smooth and efficient operation in a variety of shooting environments.
For additional customization, a number of functions can be assigned to the focus hold button from the camera body interface.
The FE 14mm F1.8 GM also features Linear Response MF for direct and precise manual focusing. An aperture ring that allows intuitive aperture control is also included.
Sony’s latest lens also includes a rear filter mount capable of accepting standard sheet-type filters for ND, color correction, soft filters, and more.
The dust and moisture resistant design of this lens also provides the reliability needed for challenging conditions.
The front lens element has a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants. The rear element is also fluorine coated to keep the surface clean when changing the rear filter.
The lens also has a built-in petal hood that effectively blocks extraneous light that can cause flare and shadows.
Regarding availability and price, the FE 14mm F1.8 GM lens will soon be available in Indonesia in June 2021 at a price of IDR 22,999,000.
