Monthly number of active network users PlayStation decreased from 112 million to 108 million, and the number of subscribers PlayStation Plus increased only slightly to 47.4 million. And it takes time for the increase in console sales to translate into increased player engagement.
Other than that, no major new games have been released by PlayStation’s own game studios in the past quarter. Even the release of the PlayStation VR2 headset did not affect the production growth. The analyst also points out that Sony is in no hurry to release mobile and service games that the audience is waiting for.
This paradox is explained by the recent price increase: for a big-budget Sony game, you have to pay not 60, but 70 dollars. And no matter how dissatisfied players are, the strategy is paying off: the company releases and sells fewer games, but at the same time makes record profits.
