Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino said during a recent interview with Nikkei Asia that the Sony PlayStation 5 console is currently the best gaming platform compared to PCs. According to him, the PS5 is much easier to configure for the latest games without worrying about any details, and spending money and time on building a gaming PC only benefits hardware fans.

When it comes to price, the PS5 actually costs a lot less to build than a PC with similar performance. But, on the other hand, as the resource noted TechSpot, a Sony console can only be used as an entertainment system and has fixed characteristics, while a PC, in addition to games, can be used for other tasks such as work, study and entertainment. Plus, it can be updated over time with more powerful components.
Nishino said Sony doesn’t have to worry about the performance of its consoles just yet, as games are just now starting to take advantage of the PS5’s benefits, such as faster loading times. As an example, a Sony representative cited the recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Therefore, rumors of an upcoming PS5 Pro with twice the power of the regular PS5 seem unlikely, given that most new PS5 games run fine on the console. You should also consider the additional costs associated with developing a more powerful PS5 console, as well as the need to use a more powerful chip, which hardly makes sense right now. Nishino stressed that the company had to make significant efforts to ensure a stable supply of the 2,000 components needed to make the PS5. And adding the PS5 Pro to its portfolio sounds like a logistical nightmare, and it could be years before it releases games that take full advantage of the new console’s capabilities.
According to the Sony vice president, making the PS5 more accessible and providing more content to attract people into the ecosystem is high on the company’s list of priorities, especially after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Sony is looking to increase its release of exclusive games and is also banking on TV adaptations of its games to entice more users to try the game on PlayStation. “We will be pushing aggressively with both content and hardware, including peripherals, during the end-of-year sales season,” Nishino stated.
