Sony is said to unveil Game Pass challengers this week

For those who switch between many different game titles, especially newly launched ones, the cost per game can quickly go away. Many new titles for PC / Windows generally land over five hundred, while the consoles’ counterparts depending on the version can run off to just under a thousand bucks. For several years now, there have been subscription services, where users get access to a gaming library for a monthly cost.

Among those who invest heavily is Microsoft with Game Pass, which is available in several different versions for both PC and console. IN December last year it turned out that Sony also has a service underway under the code name “Spartacus”. Bloomberg now reports that the competing service can be launched this week.

Sony already provides two subscription services. With Playstation Plus, users get access to play online, which can be supplemented with Playstation Now to stream both new and old games. Earlier rumors say that these will be combined in “Spartacus”, something that is talked about even now. According to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, subscriptions like Game Pass are divided into several different price categories, where the more lavish can access demo versions and cloud service to stream games.

The company has recently invested more in expanding outside its ecosystem and has launched several previous Playstation-exclusive titles for PC / Windows. However, the new gaming service is probably exclusive to Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. What titles and what price level “Spartacus” lands on and whether it will be launched already this week remains to be seen.
