It was originally the wish of a group of PlayStation fans that Sony’s mysterious hardware would be the successor to the PSP and PS Vita. But this wish can come true quickly. Well-known insider Tom Henderson from his sources found out, that the company is preparing a gaming handheld. The latter should take advantage of the advantages of the PS5, i.e. the DualSense controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
According to Henderson, Handheld has a working title Q Lite, but it won’t be a typical handheld console or cloud game streaming device. For gaming, the function will be used Remote Playthat is, streaming games from the PlayStation 5, which already works within laptops and smartphones and tablets.
Games are meant to be enjoyed on a handheld in 1080p resolution at up to 60 frames per second. Of course it will constant internet connection required, or to your home network. For that reason, the handheld will not be suitable for reducing time on your travels, if you do not have stable and fast mobile internet. For that reason, Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck will continue to be preferred.
The Q Lite is said to have look like a DualSense controller with a massive 8-inch touchscreen LCD in the middle. There will be no volume buttons, speakers, audio input jack, etc. Now the device is said to be in the quality control stage and is scheduled to be released before the PlayStation 5 Pro and after the PS5 model with a removable Blu-ray drive.
Just for fun: Steam Deck has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 and 60 Hz. The Switch is then 6.2 inches (7 inch OLED) and the resolution is also 1280×720. A PlayStation handheld would therefore have a larger display.
A more powerful version of the PS5 is said to appear on the market at the end of 2024, and a new PS5 model this September. Thus, the Q Lite should not be far away, it could easily arrive either before Christmas this year or in the first half of next year. It should be anyway part of the second phase of PS5. As you can see, it will not only be related to games, but also to hardware. Project Nomad and Project Voyager wireless headphones are to accompany Q Lite to the market.
O REMOTE PLAY
“You don’t have to be tied to a TV screen anymore – play your favorite games on PS5 or PS4, then pause the action and continue playing on another device” says Sony in the description of the Remote Play feature.
“Remote Play can be used with a mobile data connection or Wi-Fi. Requires a broadband Internet connection with a speed of at least 5 Mbps. For a better Remote Play experience, we recommend a high-speed connection of at least 15 Mbps using Wi-Fi or a mobile data connection. If you use a mobile data connection to access Remote Play features, data from your mobile data plan will be used.’
